In the digital landscape, a "Passkey" is a secure code that provides access to specific computer systems or applications, bridging the gap between traditional passwords and advanced authentication methods. Often dynamically generated, i.e., new and different every time needed, these passkeys are delivered to users through channels like SMS or app notifications, serving as a critical component in two-factor authentication (2FA) processes. In 2FA, after inputting their password, users receive a time-sensitive passkey, verifying their identity by demonstrating possession of a designated device or account. This dual-layered approach, combining knowledge (password) with possession (device or account access), substantially enhances online account security, underscoring the importance of robust access point protection and user-friendly authentication.
