Thinking of Blogging?
/Blogging can be an excellent way to attract new clients to your practice. It is an opportunity to talk about what you do and how you may be of service to others. It helps your “SEO” on the internet.
Your “SEO” is short for “Search Engine Optimization.” It helps with your identification or brand on the internet. The more you show up on the internet, the higher you are likely to be placed on search results when people use “Google,” “Yahoo,” etc.
For example, let’s say you are “Bob Smith” of “Des Moines, IA” and practice “immigration law.” The more Bob Smith creates internet content by blogging about immigration law from his practice in Des Moines, IA, the more the World Wide Web recognizes Bob Smith as the attorney from Des Moines, IA, known for handling immigration law. So, if a potential client searches for an immigration attorney in Des Moines, IA, or even just Iowa, Bob has a good chance of being closer to the top of the search results.
How do I start blogging? There are a variety of ways you can begin blogging: Creating a blog on WordPress or SquareSpace, using your firm’s website blogging feature (depending on your firm’s website provider), your firm’s Facebook page, to name a few. Your posts do not always have to be lengthy. But they should be relevant, free of grammatical and spelling errors, and the publishing of your postings should be regular. *Tip: I take some time once a week to get my media postings ready and then have them scheduled using a program like Hootsuite(for my law practice) and SquareSpace (for this blog) to schedule postings later in the week.
Lastly, be wary of offering legal advice or speech conducting unbecoming that may raise a negative interest by your state bar association!
Stay tuned, and I’ll talk more about blogging in future postings!
Happy Lawyering!
