BOLO: Recent Security Flaw Discovery May Affect Numerous Windows and Mac Users!

Jennifer Korn (with Sean Lyngaas) at CNN Business reports there is a "new" security flaw that international hackers have had over a week to exploit on unsuspecting users.  It takes advantage of a JAVA script program used by developers called "Log4J."  Even though everyday users like attorneys (and their firms, small, medium, or large) won't use this program in their day-to-day activities, you still may be at risk.

Chris Eng, chief research officer at cybersecurity firm Veracode, advises that "... you might still be running the vulnerable code because one of the open source libraries [developers] use depends on Log4j." In other words, some of the programs we use may have security breaches inadvertently baked into them because a developer used programing and resource codes to create (or update) the program you are using for work.  "This is the nature of software: It's turtles all the way down."

The best thing you can do is make sure your software programs are up-to-date.  This includes your anti-virus programs. And always, always, always, make backups, backups, backups!
