My Two Cents: I’M DONE WITH TWITTER!
That’s right, I’M DONE WITH TWITTER! As one journalist (and I’m sure there are more) put it, there is no moderation of the platform. There is no internal regulatory body ensuring hate speech, calls to violence, personal safety, inter alia, is not permitted let alone promoted. More importantly, facts (aside from parody or opinion) are not reasonably monitored. It all comes down to the whim of one man, Elon Musk, and his opinions – that may work for a personal blog or even some alleged news sites – but not when the platform is supposed to be a public forum.
I respect if our opinions differ on various topics. Facts matter. But we all have to play in the same pool of facts whether we like them or not. Allowing banned users back with no standards (aside from the musings of one man) just creates a chaotic circus where reality is put in doubt. That is fine for gaming, fantasy and private forums. But in public dialogue.
This lunacy may be part of a plan for Musk to burn Twitter to the ground in order to raise Twitter 2.0 from the ashes. But who on earth would want to work for him – no standards for the platform, firing then begging employees back, demanding loyalty oaths … As a business owner, I have the ability to choose the tech and the tech companies I associate with. If you are going to run a business haphazardly, treat your employees poorly, and not have an ethical baseline to promote accuracy and truth, then why should I have any reason to believe you are going to treat me and your other users/customers well? There are plenty of other social media sites, e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, each with a greater number of users that have a safer pool for advertisers, lawyers, and customers to meet, interact, and not feel you are part of a shi! show. That is where I want to get my next client from and not from somewhere I have debate facts versus fiction.
MTC.
PS: It may take me a couple of days, but my accounts on Twitter will be deactivated soon.
